Deutsche Telekom Announces New Multi-Device OTT Video Acceleration Platform LiveStream Perform With Octoshape

BONN AND COPENHAGEN – (10 June 2013) – Today, Deutsche Telekom’s Business Development and Innovation (BDI) in partnership with Octoshape, announced a new Deutsche Telekom cloud-based video solution, introduced as “LiveStream Perform,” powered by Octoshape. The new service provides the best quality video distribution of over-the-top (OTT) content via fixed and mobile broadband networks.

The LiveStream Perform solution is capable of providing the “dial-tone” reliability of broadcast TV today through best-effort broadband networks. The solution also has the unique ability to reach global audiences, thus breaking the traditional barriers of content distribution over the Internet, which requires server infrastructure to be very close to the end user. As a result, consumers can experience the same quality they are accustomed to on the TV screen, on devices and networks wherever they are in the world.

Powered by Octoshape’s streaming technology, LiveStream Perform is an entirely new way of experiencing live and on-demand video content. The patented technologies employ throughput optimization methods that enable TV-like playback quality over broadband networks worldwide. In addition, the suite of multicast technologies enables scale and efficiency for operators and provides predictable business models for broadcasters.

“I am pleased to team up with such a prominent and highly regarded brand,” said Michael Koehn Milland, CEO of Octoshape. “Combining Deutsche Telekom with the industry leading OTT video distribution technologies of Octoshape simply escalates the disruptive cycle in the market. Together with Deutsche Telekom, we are very proud to usher in a new class of video service that is beyond any video experience available today. Octoshape already powers some of the largest OTT initiatives across many global marquee broadcasters. By partnering with Deutsche Telekom, we are able to extend the reach to an even broader group of companies around the world.”

“Deutsche Telekom is committed to providing industry-leading products to its customers,” said Karim El-Khazen, Vice President Business Development and Innovation. “This requires that we integrate best-of-breed technologies into Deutsche Telekom’s offering. Thanks to the Octoshape technology, we can expand our product portfolio with a service that represents a differentiating factor and accompanies our customers into the next phase of video distribution over the Internet.”

LiveStream Perform is available through Business Development and Innovation and targets both carriers and broadcast customers alike.
